Deepen your telephone voice

Following on from my Corkily Clear blog last July, I just want to blog about telephone technique. Not only do you need to be clear, concise and uncluttered, stating who you are from the beginning (not that many people listen properly) and responding effectively and efficiently, but put some life into your voice and bring the pitch down a notch – Margaret Thatcher had elocution lessons when she became Prime Minister to lower her voice and therefore obtain more authority – but this doesn’t mean we should start reaching for the testosterone, just take time to think before you speak, slow down your speech, deepen your voice a bit and smile, this really shows in your voice. I knew someone who used to always finish off her telephone conversations with a big smile on her face, whatever her mood at the time.
